Recognize that the transition to zero-emissions transportation, including battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric transit, coach and rail systems, will require an energy “systems overhaul of entire fleets and infrastructural systems, meaning that incentives and funding programs designed and launched by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Infrastructure Canada (IC), Environment, Climate Change Canada and/or Transport Canada will need to support coordinated energy systems integration efforts (i.e. both vehicle and fuelling ends of the equation) with consortia of partners to be effective, immediate and long-term from an economic sustainability standpoint. 1) Recognize that fleet adoption – specifically heavy duty vehicle fleet adoption in the public sector, including bus, coach and rail systems – offers more immediate and substantial emissions reductions opportunities for taxpayers compared to individual passenger car incentives over the next four year period. Improve bilateral trade with Lebanon. Review existing treaties and agreements to ensure they are up to date and are conforming to the terms. Read more
With respect to the ongoing war between Gaza and Israel, through a briefing of the situation in Lebanon regarding the fragility of the state already facing a humanitarian crisis, economic crisis and political stalemate on the election of a president, the Canadian Government is being asked to work with the international community to put pressure on key stakeholders to neutralize Lebanon from the effects of the Gaza war, and to do so by establishing a global consensus that Lebanon is not represented by Hezbollah, which is a non state actor and is controlled by Iran.
Work with the newly elected Lebanase President, Joseph Aoun, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, after forming a government, to review existing treaties with Canada, including E101529. These treaties, along with international law should serve as the foundation for any bilateral discussions on reconstruction to ensure that Canadians can recover their deposists held in Lebanese banks. This marks an important next step as Lebanon transitions from a country in need of humanitarian aid to a global economic partner.
a) monetary assistance for the Lebanese Armed Forces to help with a reservist program in every district in Lebanon (15) that would target women for non-combat roles within the Armed Forces. Work with the UN to help with this along with a well respected Canadian charity with feet on the ground inside Lebanon. For example, The Sisterhood of Diman Foundation in conjunction with the Canadian Red Cross.
f) identify possible Canadian Government resources to help strengthen and advance political reforms in Lebanon. This is one area that the international community is requiring from Lebanon in exchange for monetary aid and economic recovery, and so therefore, Lebanon needs assistance in this area and to help the newly elected change MP's in the country with resources on reform.
e) Provide Technical Assistance to the Lebanese Government to create new and update existing policies pertaining to refugees and asylum seekers, including a policy framework to distinguish between Syrian Refugees and Syrian Economic migrants including a policy for Syrian Workers in Lebanon. This is to help alleviate the excessive demand on Lebanon's resources including education, water, energy, food, medicine, medical care, housing, and economic opportunities for families' livelihood.
Help with enforcing UN resolutions pertaining to Lebanon, specifically 1701, 1559 and 1680 and increase the role of UNIFIL to ensure restraint at the borders and prevention an escalation of war, and to manage border traffic of migrants and refugees.
Work with the institutions that represent the state (which is currently operating at minimum / fragile manner) and these include the Lebanese Army, Internal Security Forces, free civil society, medical and educational sector and providers of humanitarian aid.
