Support for the creation of a Live Performing Arts Tax Credit. Similar to the success of the Canadian Film and Television Production Tax Credit, a coalition of engagers and unions from the creative industries are asking the government to invest in a job accelerator program for the performing arts. Similar initiatives are in place in competitor markets, and in order to be competitive, our industry requires access to comparable tools. The result would be a catalyst for job creation and promote Canadian cultural sovereignty. PACT would not benefit directly from funding through such a program, but advocates on behalf of its theatre members as a whole. Read more

Support for investment for theatres via the Canada Council for the Arts. PACT engages with decision makers to encourage increasing the funding available to be disseminated through the programs of the Canada Council for the Arts. We meet with leadership as part of Meeting information gathering, impact sharing, sector updates, and clarity pertaining to the program delivery. PACT does receive operating funding through the Canada Council for the Arts, but advocates generally on behalf of its member theatres as a whole, not individual applicants or recipients.

Support for theatres from the Building Community Strong Fund. Engaging in conversations to encourage the explicit inclusion of theatres and cultural centers as eligible under the new BCSF as they develop the funding parameters and guidelines. PACT is not set to access this program, but is advocating generally on behalf of our members.

These are typically related to renewable energy projects such as east-west electricity infrastructure and investment tax credits. We are not policy experts and generally don't speak to a specific policy, but instead focus on increasing overall ambition on climate and nature in order to protect Canada's $102 billion outdoor recreation economy which relies on natural assets (forests, rivers, lakes, fields, mountains) threatened by climate change.
