232 tariffs. As of Sept. 30th, 100% tariffs apply to Canada for commercial drug shipments to the US. The companies' goal is to ensure this issue is on the radar of our Federal government administrations (e.g. ISED) and politicians. I plan to contact their offices (calls, emails, in person where possible) to make them aware of the risk to the Canadian CDMO industry, manufacturing jobs, and to Canada's Life Science commercialization strategy. My goal is for this issue to be on the agenda to address by our trade negotiators if and when trade negitiations resume so they can be reduced to something reasonable (e.g. Europe is 15% whereas Canada is 100%). PIPSC advocates for strengthening the federal government’s capacity to deliver high-quality public services and programs. This includes engagement on the impacts of the federal government’s comprehensive expenditure review and associated workforce adjustments on service delivery and the retention of internal expertise. PIPSC also engages on concerns related to the federal government's growing reliance on outsourcing and professional services contracts and the need to rebuild in-house public sector capacity. PIPSC advocacy focuses on the protection of scientific integrity and the role of evidence-based decision-making across federal departments and agencies, along with the integrity and fairness of Canada’s tax system, including appropriate resourcing for enforcement and compliance, and broader workforce management policies related to recruitment, retention, and the preservation of specialized expertise within the federal public service.
