Bill S243
WHCC has been included in a national steering committee and coalition to see Bill S243 presented and pass through the Senate and progress through to the house.
This national mobilization builds on the introduction of Senate Public Bill S-243, An Act to establish a framework for women’s health in Canada, introduced by Senator Danièle Henkel in December 2025. The proposed legislation calls for coordinated national action to strengthen investment in women’s health research and innovation, improve access to care, advance prevention and primary care, and support Canadian leadership in women-led health innovation.
National women's health data & research platform - Major Project
Recommendation: That the Government of Canada, in partnership with the Women’s Health Collective Canada and the Partnership for Women’s Health Research Canada, provide initial funding of $10-12 million to WHCC and PWHR for 2026/27 fiscal year to establish a Pan-Canadian Women’s Health Data and Research Innovation Platform.
The national women’s health data and research platform will serve as national knowledge infrastructure to harmonize existing patient and research data, and enable coordinated cohort studies with linked biobanking, clinical trial infrastructure, and AI-enabled innovation in women’s health research across Canada.
Federal funding will be leveraged using additional provincial, philanthropic, academic, and private sector investment. This public-private partnership will support collaboration across research institutes, health systems, and innovation partners nationwide.
Investment from the Government of Canada is an important first step in laying the foundation for a national women’s health research and data initiative. Beyond this initial phase, we will seek the federal government’s continued partnership and investment to support future phases in establishing Canada’s first national women’s health innovation data platform in a manner which will serve the national interest.
Women's Health Research, treatment, care and outcomes
WHCC is requesting that the Federal Government dedicated more funding to women's health research specifically:
Strengthen sex- and gender-disaggregated data across research and care.
Ensure equitable representation of women in clinical trials.
Embed sex-specific clinical pathways into standard care.
Advance national coordination and shared accountability.
Align policy, funding, and system incentives.
